The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Easter has Come and Christ has Risen!!!!!
Welcome parents, children, guests and inquiring minds alike to our new blog site.  The Children's Ministry at Praise Fellowship (Russell, Pa) has been growing and expanding.  Especially in the area of spiritual understanding in regards to our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

My hope is this blog will be both informative and encouraging to all who read and subscribe. Each week parents of members and guest children can find out what they have been learning in each service. At both service times  9am and a 11am . At each of these services the children remain upstairs with their family members until after praise and worship. Then the children are released downstairs where the real fun begins.

                                                Sunday April 8, 2012

 9am Service
Praise Fellowship Champions Children’s department did something never done before.  What is it you ask?  On Easter Sunday we became like Jesus and washed each others feet. I could find no better time to teach about being a true servant of God then an Easter Sunday.  What better lesson than the one Jesus'  portrayed leading up to his death. In John chapter 13 we learn Jesus is preparing for His death, and some pertinent last words to His disciples. We also learned why Jesus washed  the feet of his disciples. I asked my youth mentors/helpers(ages from 5th-7th grade), to be the ones to wash the feet of any of the children who desired to have this done. We discussed the role of the “ Servant” in the house.  Why it was important to have the guests’ feet washed and the spiritual meanings of this simple act. By doing so, the Champions Children learned how important it is to be a servant. Also what it means to be like Jesus in today's society.

The 11am Service
The Champion Sunday Schools kids learned about the resurrection of Jesus, and what it means for us as believers. Each Class made a craft or colored pictures to go home with the kids.
During the corporate worship in the Sanctuary there were several children baptized.  What a great way to worship and praise Jesus during the Easter holiday. By those baptized, they announce their devotion and love to the body of Christ and to Jesus who died for them.

The 9am Service
Champions Children continued a month long series on the nine Holy Spirit gifts found in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Among those discussed previously are the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, and healing . Champions church showed a 30 minute movie from “Super Book” called “ The Roar”.  It is a story about 2 kids and a robot who travel back in bible times to learn important lessons which help children understand underlying themes in the bible and learn how to use this information in their own lives daily. The Children were able to learn three important facts:
1. Bullying-what to do and how to handle it should we find ourselves or a friend in this situation.
2. Discussed gift of faithfulness and miracles/wonders.  Which Daniel in the bible encountered when he was
thrown into the lions den.  This took enormous faith and miracle from God to save Daniel.  The Children learned how the Holy Spirit working through us enables us to be able to ask and believe for mighty things.
3. Gifts of Healing- I had the Children come up and lay hands on me since I had not been feeling well lately.
I used this time to teach how important it is to pray with and for those who need it.  I wanted to show the Children I was not afraid to ask for prayer and I believed God would answer their prayers brought to Him. How God answers is completely up to Him.  But the lesson was to step out in belief and allow God to work through us because of our faithfulness in Him.

The 11am Service
Preschool Class- Learn some of the Bible heroes found in the old and new testament.  While concentrating on learning how to pray and seek Jesus at a very young age.

Kindergarten-2nd Grade-Continue to learn about many different bible characters make craft to take home and are learning to memorize bible scriptures weekly.

3rd-5th grade Class- Continues to learn how to deal with the different pressures of school, family, peers and society they are confronted with through the week. Especially while the secular world portrays one set of values and Jesus asks to us to live quite differently.
